When you use StudSpec, we may collect the following types of information:

  • Account Information: Name, email address, and authentication data provided through our identity provider (Clerk).
  • Project Data: Information you enter about your construction project, including decisions, photos, budget items, contacts, meeting notes, questions, and documents.
  • Usage Data: How you interact with our application, including pages visited, features used, and session duration.
  • Device Information: Browser type, operating system, and device type used to access our service.
  • Payment Information: Billing details processed securely through Stripe or Apple In-App Purchase. We do not store your full credit card number.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our services.
  • Process your transactions and send related information.
  • Send you technical notices, updates, and support messages.
  • Respond to your comments, questions, and customer service requests.
  • Power AI features such as photo analysis and Q&A (your data is sent to AI providers only when you explicitly use these features).
  • Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities to improve user experience.
  • With your explicit opt-in consent, use your data to train and improve our AI models (see Section 2a below).

2a. Data Contribution Program (Opt-In)

StudSpec offers a voluntary Data Contribution Program that allows you to help improve our AI features for the construction community. This program is entirely optional and disabled by default.

When you enable the "Contribute to improving StudSpec" setting in your account:

  • Your project data (photos, documents, decisions, meeting notes, and other content) may be used to train, evaluate, and improve StudSpec's AI models and features.
  • Your data may be used in anonymized and aggregated form to develop new AI capabilities for the construction industry.
  • Your personal information (name, email, contact details) is never included in training data — only project content is used.
  • Contributed data may be retained for AI training purposes even after account deletion, but only in anonymized form with no link to your identity.

Your rights under this program:

  • You can enable or disable this setting at any time in your account settings.
  • Disabling the setting stops future use of your data for training, but does not retroactively remove data already used in trained models.
  • If you never enable this setting, your data is never used for AI training — it is only used to provide the Service to you.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:

  • Service Providers: Third-party companies that help us operate our service (e.g., hosting, payment processing, authentication, AI processing).
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, subpoena, or other legal process.
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure with encryption at rest and in transit. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including HTTPS, secure authentication, and regular security reviews.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or legitimate business purposes. If you opted into the Data Contribution Program, anonymized data that has already been incorporated into AI training datasets may be retained, but it will no longer be linked to your identity.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data.
  • Export your data in a portable format (PDF, CSV).
  • Object to or restrict certain processing of your data.

7. Cookies & Analytics

We use essential cookies to maintain your session and preferences. We may use analytics tools to understand how our service is used. You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings.

8. Children's Privacy

StudSpec is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
